In some situations physicians decide that simply keeping a close watch on a tumor is the best treatment. A small, benign, slow-growing tumor that produces few symptoms can be observed with routine MRI scans. The patient can continue to receive a scan at recommended time intervals until the tumor’s growth or symptoms makes surgery necessary. Observation also may be the best option for older patients with other health conditions.
