Shemenski Foundation Donates $24k to UC Brain Tumor Center

The Shemenski Foundation, which honors the life of John Shemenski, who died of a brain tumor in 2008, presented the UC Brain Tumor Center with a check for $24,000 on January 27. The generous donation will support clinical trials research.

Christi-Anne Beatty, an 11-year-old ninth grader at Covington Latin, came to Walk Ahead for a Brain Tumor Cure to help her mother, Angeline Beatty, on the volunteer team. But something in the air told Christi that she was really there to run in honor of a friend who had a brain tumor.

Organizers of the Second Annual Walk Ahead for a Brain Tumor Cure wish to thank walkers, runners, volunteers, sponsors and donors for lifting the event past its goals! More than 1,600 people participated in the event, and donations have passed $167,000 and continue to come in.

The Acoustic Neuroma Association's 20th national symposium is off to a blockbuster start at the Cincinnati Hilton Netherland Plaza. Nearly 200 attendees from 30 states are here, and they are getting first-rate information about acoustic neuroma from experts from around the United States.

For the second straight year, the UC Brain Tumor Team-Building Event brought supporters, clinicians, management and staff together for lunch and an afternoon of karting at the Motorsports Country Club in Batavia, Ohio. The storm clouds broke for the occasion, and team members had a chance to rev up their engines without worrying about stoplights or coplights.

Some 240 friends of the UC Brain Tumor Center enjoyed food, friendship and fund-raising Thursday night at the second annual wine-tasting event at the CARE-Crawley Building on the UC Academic Health Center campus. Dozens of wines were sampled, and delicious food was served. Rich Seal, a member of the Brain Tumor Center’s Community Advisory Board, served as event chair.

Kathy Beechem, retired Executive Vice President of US Bank and Chair of the UC Brain Tumor Center's Community Advisory Board, was honored as an Enquirer Woman of the Year Tuesday at the Hyatt Regency downtown. Ms. Beechem was honored along with nine other outstanding Cincinnati women, who have made significant contributions in their professional lives and as volunteers.
