Auditory Brainstem Response

Share

An Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) is a painless, noninvasive test that checks the hearing pathway to the brainstem.

A physician may prescribe an ABR if an individual has hearing loss in only one ear or has hearing impairment that is more pronounced in one ear than the other. This type of hearing impairment could indicate a problem with the hearing nerve.

Electrodes on the scalp and earlobes capture the brain’s responses to clicking noises heard through earphones.
